Table runner - with circles

Bilde
Circles are never wrong - and after finishing a table cloth for my coffee table (duk til sofabordet) - see directions here  - I just had to make more circles for a matching table runner. I needed more squares - from the charm packs with  "Mixed bag 2017"  - and also fabric for the binding and backing. I made 20 circle patches and mixed with 20 plain squares. For quilting I meandered outside the circles for the circle blocks and for the plain squares I did the inverse - and meandered the illusion of circles. I'm pleased with the result - and prepared for the spring with this bright table runner.

"Mixed bag 2017" Moda charms into circles – for my coffee table

I love charm packs. Then I get to try out so many different coordinated fabrics. This time I bought a charm pack called "Mixed bag 2017" with 42 squares 5"x 5" from by Studio M for Moda at my favourite quilt store Quiltegården . I also bought the "Bigger Perfect Circles" by Karen Kay Buckley, which is a set of plastic circle templates, and Roxanne Glue-Baste-it temporary basting glue to place the circles on the background fabric for applique (see the picture above, right). Directions: I used the plastic template that was 3.5" in diameter, and cut out (including 1/4" seam allowance) 8 circles of a selection of the bright fabric from the mixed bag,  then with a knotted thread I sew a running stitch in the middle of the seam allowance,  placed the plastic template in the middle of my cicle, sprayed on some Stiff (strykesstivelse) and pulled the thread so the seam gathered around the template.  I waited a few minutes, and then I us...

Celebrating spring -- new tablecloth made from Jen Kingwell Gardenvale fabrics

Bilde
I love giving myself challenges - and this tablecloth is the result of the following challenge: design and sew a tablecloth for the chest of drawers in my entrance - and only use fabric from the Gardenvale fabric range by Jen Kingwell . Where did that challenge come from? 1) My entrance really needed more colour - and also some black (and clear blue) to match two of my favourite posters by Hundertwasser ( Das 30 Tage Tax Bild  and  Loewengasse - la troisieme peau ) hanging over the chest of drawers. You see? And, 2) I went to my favourite quilt shop, Quiltegården , and the owner, Siw, had just gotten in charm packs from the Gardenvale fabric range. I bought one  2.5x2.5 and one 5x5 charm pack, and then also half a meter of Seven Seas spots, Black Swan spots, Monkey Magic circles, and Half Strength Lead (see  Gardenvale fabric range ). I started by randomly sewing together the pre-cut charms, and then added a few appliqued flowers (my machine), and fin...

Tilbakeblikk: Høylands dag

Bilde
